North Tyneside Unplugged

On Thursday 7th December schools and families across North Tyneside will be switching off their devices to raise awareness of overuse and addiction to screens.

Technology is a wonderful thing and enhances our lives in many ways, however, there’s a growing feeling that as a society we need to balance when and how much we use it. From texting while driving, checking phones through the night, restaurants full of people staring at screens while they ignore each other and children glued to screens instead of reading or playing out. It’s all having a direct impact on health and interpersonal relationships.

To combat this we have created a range of resources for schools to use with their students and parents of students at their schools.

We’re also working alongside Dr Martin Lee, from Newcastle’s Freeman hospital and his nophonezone campaign to get more people to sit up and take notice of this issue and so we can all achieve a more balanced approach to our use of technology, so that it does enhance our lives and doesn’t have negative effects on our mental and physical health and our relationships with the people in our lives.
