Evaluating the game

Programming Scratch Maze Games - Lesson 6

Objectives

  • Talk about how they made their program and justify the choice they made for both function and design.
  • Critically evaluate programs and say what they liked and what could be done to improve it.

Introduction

Ask the students to load their game from last week and then move to their right and play someone else’s game. While they play this time they should complete a Scratch game evaluation form

Discuss giving fair and constructive feedback and that the purpose of the feedback is to help them improve your partner’s game, so any criticism should also offer advice on how to solve the problem. Model some appropriate statements if necessary.

When complete, all evaluations should be returned to the owner of the game that was evaluated.

Give students the chance to look at the feedback they received and, if wanted, make any changes to their own game to improve it, based on what people said.

Save the finished versions to the shared area or the students' online  Scratch accounts.

Plenary

Finish off by looking at a few examples and asking them to feedback what they changed following the feedback they received on the evaluation form.
