What is LEGO® Robotics for Business?

Our Robotics for Business sessions offer a fantastic team-building experience where your team can design, build and code LEGO® Spike Prime robots to complete a series of missions in an assault course style time trial, with a bit of friendly competition thrown in for good measure!

There’s a low threshold and high ceiling for what is possible with LEGO® robots, so you and your staff can enjoy and beneft from an engaging experience whatever your background. No prior experience or technical knowledge is required.

LEGO® Robotics for Business is built on the work we do with the incredible global STEM programme FIRST® LEGO® League.

FIRST® LEGO® League is for students aged 4 to 16 years and is split into 3 age divisions:

Discover (ages 4-6) - A play-based introduction to STEM concepts, built around exploration, listening, teamwork and playful learning.
Explore (ages 6 - 9) - A non-competitive introduction to research, design, building and coding.
Challenge (ages 9 -16) - A robotics and life skills competition that quickly develops research, presenting, coding, design, problem-solving and teamwork skills.

LEGO® Robotics for Business offers you the chance to support local schools and their students to be part of this fabulous programme.

An essential requirement for schools to be able to take part in FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge is having access to a LEGO® Education Robot kit.

The latest competition kit is the LEGO® Spike Prime set and Expansion set

You can add on the cost of these kits to the price of your team-building day and we'll make sure they go to local schools who are keen to participate in the programme.

Add on £410.00* (ex VAT) for each Spike Prime robot set and expansion pack that you'd like to donate to a local school.

Suggested robot kit to pupil ratio is 1:6

Sponsor a tournament for schools

We are proud to run the largest FIRST® LEGO® League events in the UK and Ireland. Our tournament mainly covers schools in North Tyneside and Northumberland, but there are still many areas in the North East that do not currently offer FIRST® LEGO® League programmes and tournaments.

Your company can sponsor a new event to open the door for schools to have this fantastic experience. Our experienced team will do the rest and support all aspects of developing a tournament in a new area.

We will:

Recruit the schools
Handle team registrations with The IET
Order equipment
Train teachers to deliver the programme
Provide support to schools through the season
Plan and host the tournament event
Recruit and train volunteer helpers

FIRST® LEGO® League is supported by enthusiastic volunteers all around the world. You and your colleagues can join that team and support FIRST® LEGO® League events regionally or nationally.

Volunteer by:

Mentoring a team
Providing in-person or remote support to schools (email, video calls)
Helping as a judge or referee at regional and national tournaments.

Volunteering at FIRST® LEGO® League events is guaranteed to be both inspiring and enormous fun!

Full training is provided for all tournament volunteer roles.

The Sage Classpack project

The Sage Foundation has committed approx £1m to a 3-year, first-of-its-kind project, to fund 45 north-east schools to deliver FIRST® LEGO® League Class pack. We are always looking for partners or collaborators to engage with the future of this project or to replicate it on any scale in new areas.

In the Sage Class pack project, every child in a school participates in FIRST® LEGO® League at the appropriate age level, as part of their curriculum.

Every student receives an outstanding STEM learning experience.
Staff receive high-quality training and ongoing support to deliver the programme.
The schools receive (and keep) all the LEGO® Education and FIRST® LEGO® League equipment they need.
15,000 students will have taken part by the end of the third year (2023/24 school year).

This Class pack sponsorship model is the first of its kind in the world and has been proven to be a huge success. The IET and Sage would be very keen to replicate it on any kind of scale (bigger or smaller) with other partners, or as a collaboration.

This project has been a collaboration between Sage, the IET, Education North Tyneside and Northumberland County Council.
