Lesson Resources

Introduction

Recap last week’s work, beginning with typing. How many hands should we use for typing? How should we sit?

Recap some of the key rows and important keys:

Open up Purple Mash and 2Type again and introduce 2Pop.

We recommend they adjust the settings to put the game on slow and play for 1 minute.

In this activity the children must pop the bubbles before they reach the top of the screen by hitting the correct key. Ask them to have a few goes, trying to use both hands at all times and pressing the wrong letter loses a point! Collect best scores at the end.

A simple publication (continued)

Last week we started writing instructions for making a spell. Remind them how to open 2Publish + and then show them how to open a file with the yellow file icon and look for their work from the last lesson.

If required, give them some time to complete their instructions, reminding them about capital letters and trying to use the shift key. Again, encourage them to try and type with two hands.

What doing words have we used in our instructions? What makes it easy to follow the instructions?

Then move onto formatting each text box.

Then they can start to add pictures. They need to click on the purple felt tip icon to bring up the drawing tools. There are simple and more advanced versions of the drawing tools.

The pens represent the simple tools:

The spanner and screwdriver represent the more advanced drawing tools.

Or they can add clip art with this button.

There are lots of categories to choose from, so you may need to give them some direction of where to find things, but if it's not there, they can draw it themselves. You can drag clip art anywhere onto the page, and then move it around by clicking on the picture and dragging and resize it with the corner handles.

Ask them to add a picture for each step of their potion recipe.

Show how to save their work again at the end, and if wanted, print their work.

Next week we will be creating a story with moving pictures in it!
