Below you will find units of work that we suggest for Year 8.

Please note:

  • It is not a rigid scheme of work, so feel free to move things around if it works better in your school. 
  • This layout does not contain all the units available for middle and high schools.

Year 8

Autumn 1

Digital Literacy and online safety (Y8)

A unit of six lessons taken from Common Sense Education’s excellent digital citizenship curriculum, covering a wide range of topics including well-being, privacy and security, online identity, relationships, communication and the media.

Autumn 2

Python Minecraft

Learn Python by hacking Minecraft on a Raspberry Pi! Extend learning into a text based programming language. Students learn how they can manipulate the Minecraft world by writing code, covering concepts such as loops, lists, messaging, 3D coordinates and debugging.

Sonic Pi - Coding music

A unit to really get creative with code! Use a text based coding language (Ruby) to create your own beats and tunes. Play notes, chords, samples and loops and manipulate it all to your heart’s content until you’re rocking beats like a top DJ.... just with code!
